Our Mission
PAL is a youth
crime prevention program that utilizes educational, athletic and
recreational activities to create trust and understanding between
police officers and youth. It is based on the conviction that
young people - if they are reached early enough - can develop strong
positive attitudes towards police officers in their journey through
life toward the goal of maturity and good citizenship.
Our Organization
Melbourne PAL is a charter member of the National Association of
Police Athletic Leagues, recognized as the largest juvenile crime
prevention program in the nation.
-
The Greater Melbourne Police Athletic League, Inc. (PAL) is a
registered non-profit 501(c) organization dedicated to providing
educational and athletic activities for youth.
-
A Board of Directors governs Melbourne PAL. These volunteer
board members are community leaders that contribute their time
and talent to ensure positive programming is made available to
our youth.
-
An Executive Director manages daily operations and coordinates
youth programs. The Executive Director is a sworn police officer
of the Melbourne Police Department.
Our Programs
Melbourne PAL
provides multiple programs to over 1,000 youth of Greater Melbourne,
supervised by over 100 coaches and volunteers.
-
These programs include: Basketball, Football,
Cheerleading/Dance, Boxing, Volleyball, Golf, Youth Directors
Council, Music, Police Explorers, Outward Bound, and Summer
Camps.
-
We have two locations: Grant Street CC (South Melbourne), and
Carver Park CC (North Melbourne).
-
Many of our young athletes have moved on to the college and
professional ranks in football, basketball, baseball, and track
and field.
Melbourne PAL is funded through grants, sponsorships, and
registration fees. Donations are greatly appreciated. Volunteers are
welcomed!
