After extensive renovations, Carver Park Community Center re opened on June 2,
2008 as a state-of-the-art recreational community center under PAL Management.Mrs. Marthenia Jones transferred from the Grant Street Community Center to assume the
Directorship of Melbourne PAL at Carver Park.Melbourne PAL at Carver Park is open to the members of the local
community and the public at large during most hours.
Melbourne PAL at Carver Park is home to the Assurance Academy, a
small, non-profit private school for elementary aged students at a nominal cost for those who qualify. The school is in session from 8 AM to 2
PM, Monday through Friday. Melbourne PAL is proud to partner with Assurance
Academy in being able to offer educational opportunities to the children of
Melbourne.
Melbourne PAL welcomes and partners with several other organizations that
utilize the Carver Park facility for meetings. Besides the PAL Football &
Cheerleading programs, Carver Park host The
Booker T. Washington Neighborhood Association, The Police Community Relations
committee, a Bible Study and scout programs.
Hours of Operation
The
facility is open during the school year after school each day from 2:30 to 7:00
PM. Please note that the facility is dedicated to homework, study time,
and reading during the first few hours of operation.
Melbourne PAL at Carver Park is open to the members of the local community and
available to the public for special events.
Activities
Formal
Tutoring A formal tutoring program has been established
and is available on Tuesday and Thursday's between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00
PM. The tutoring program makes snacks available at no cost, but enrollment
is required and we need to know of any medical history or dietary needs. The
program is available at no cost. Please see Mrs. Marthenia Jones to have
your child enrolled.
Homework Help Mrs. Marthenia Jones and other community
volunteers are always available to help the kids with their homework, projects,
and computer work on a daily basis. PAL
Youth Leadership Program (YLP)
This
life-skills and character building program is a club for youth between the ages
of 12 to17 years and meets almost every Thursday evening from 5 � 7 PM. The kids are self-governing, have fun
planning events, taking field trips, and participate in various programs about
gangs, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, goal-setting, making wise decisions and many
life-skills. There is no fee to register and all are encouraged to join.
Speakers and volunteers are always welcome!
PAL Summer Camp
A fun-filled, low cost camp at Carver Park is offered to
the children of the Booker T. Washington neighborhood and Melbourne.The children enjoy physical activities, as well as academic enrichment
activities, field trips to the movies, the skating rink, the ocean, bowling,
fishing, the pool and many other really fun activities.
Registration will begin in May.

Additional
activities at the Carver Park Community Center include Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts,
a bible Study group, as well as the PAL Football, and PAL Football Cheerleading
programs.
