Melbourne PAL at Carver Park

After extensive refurbishment, Melbourne PAL at
the Carver Park Community Center has re-opened. The
renovations were started on 5 December 2007 and completed at the
beginning of May. The center has been officially open since 2
June 2008. In the refurbishment, the old inoperable restrooms
on the east end of the building were removed and relocated to the
north side of the facility. It is planned that the space in the building formerly utilized for
the old rest rooms will be converted into a meeting area with a
removable partition. See more photos here.

We are conducting a summer youth program that
involves such activities as swimming, bowling, and roller skating. Summer hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00
PM. Fall hours will be in the afternoon and evening once
school is back in session. Marthenia Jones has transferred
from the Grant Street Community Center to assume the Directorship of
Melbourne PAL at Carver Park--she has worked hard to re-open a
state-of-the-art recreational community center. Please welcome
her.

A Grand Opening Celebration is to be held later
this summer and there will a cookout and softball game with the community
against members of the Melbourne Police Department.
The new CPCC facility is to be a family friendly place and not
just for the kids, but for their parents as well. Proposed
new/example activities are to include: a Family Friday night where $2.00 is charged and will include movie, hotdog, popcorn and soft
drinks; and a Family Bingo night on Monday evenings.

On Thursday, 3 July the kids enjoyed a cookout
with hotdogs along with a water balloon fight and then settled down
for chips, drinks, cupcakes and freezie pops while they enjoyed
watching a movie with the hot and then rainy weather outside.

The YDC North Program is being run by
Melbourne PAL at Carver Park. For additional information,
please contact Marthenia ("Ms. Tudy") Jones at the number below.
We are interested in locating youth in need of Bright Futures
Scholarship hours for volunteer services at the new facility.
