In the News - FPL Employees Donate Backpacks and School Supplies to Carver Park Youth

FPL Provides Power Safety Training to the Carver Park Youth

On 1 August 2008, a group of Florida Power and Light employees paid a visit to the Carver Park Community Center to provide the youth participating in the Melbourne PAL at Carver Park Summer Program with backpacks and school supplies in preparation for the start of the 2008/2009 academic school year.

In addition to providing the Carver Park Summer Campers with much needed school supplies, the FPL employees arrived at the Carver Park facility with a Florida Power "bucket truck" that is utilized in servicing electrical power lines.  After providing the Carver Park youth with their backpacks and school supplies, they were first treated to seated classroom instruction on electrical and power line safety with a question and answer session.

Following the question and answer session, the Carver Park youth were taken outside where they were able to learn about the Florida Power service truck with hands-on instruction associated with power line and transformer repair.  Finally, the morning and afternoon session was rounded at with a pizza party, another gift from the FPL employees.  The event was was organized by FPL employee Beckie A. Stenson.

This is the second consecutive year that this group of FPL employees has provided these services to our Carver Park youth.  Melbourne PAL, Carver Park, and the Booker T. Washington community are very fortunate to have such a caring and compassionate group as our Florida Power employees.  A very special Thank You to Florida Power and its very generous employees!
